Little Pop Rice (Mery's Unforgettable Experience)

When Mery was five years old, she and her sister lived with their grandmother in Tegal, Central Java. At that time, Mery liked to go to rice field to help her grandmother.

One day, she went to rice field with her friend at afternoon. Her friends name is Indah. They went to rice field by foot. When they arrived, they saw farmers were very busy. In that time was harvesting time. Some of farmers were cropping their own rice and the others were cleaning rice straws. Mery approached her grandmother then helped her grandmother. Mery helped her grandmother to beat rice straws into the tools. They cleaned the rice straws from rice manually.

After all of the rice straws had finished to clean from rice, Mery and her grandmother collected rice straws that had cleaned on the edge of rice field and burned it. When it was burning, a lot of little pop rice jumped from it. A lot of little pop rice was descending from rice that left in rice straws.

When Mery saw it, she called Indah soon and then they took the little pop rice one by one. They ate the little pop rice together and they enjoyed it. That was a great day for them. Because of they found unique and novelty thing.

That is one of Mery’s stories about her childhood. And this story becomes unforgettable experience for her. Because after that day, Mery have been staying in Jakarta till now.
